GENTLE EXFOLIATION

Gentle being the operative word. No matter how many serums and creams are applied, dry skin will stay dry without some light exfoliation. Buffing the skin a little will pave the way for serums and moisturisers to penetrate more efficiently and get to work.

So, exfoliation is important, BUT, and this is a big but, don’t overdo it. Too much exfoliation can exacerbate dry skin conditions. Opt for something gentle, such as an enzyme exfoliating mask 1-2 times a week or gentle AHA’s such as Glycolic or Lactic acid to rid dead skin cells,

TIP: Cut back your retinol in the PM. While a favoured ingredient of ours, it is an exfoliant so if dryness is a problem- minimise use to every other day.

SWITCH TO A HEAVIER FACE CREAM

An obvious suggestion, but an important one none the less. Switching your moisturiser to a heavier formula can vastly help with dryness. Look for creams over lotions, and formulas containing ingredients such as ceramides, and hyaluronic acid. These help protect the skin barrier and lock in hydration. Don’t be shy- pack on a hefty amount and let your skin drink it up

AVOID HARSH CLEANSERS

Switch your cleanser to a gentle solution. Look for a cleanser without fragrance or unnecessary additives that won’t strip your skin of natural oils. We love a nourishing oil or cream cleanse in winter- this will help remove make up and dirt, giving a deep cleanse without compromising the barrier

TIP: Treat yourself to a facial massage when using an oil cleanser

HYALUROINC IS YOUR HERO

We are HUGE fans of HA serums year round- and this is a non-negotiable come winter. HA is a naturally occurring substance in the human body and toped up topically, it vastly helps with overall skin hydration and barrier repair. The beauty of HA is it is suited to all skin types and pairs well with most other skincare products, the other beauty of HA is that it pads out fine lines when there’s a lack of water in the complexion. Expect your skin to feel more plumed and youthful with a quenched glow. Layer over your Vitamin C in the AM and over retinal at night.

INÈS FAVOURITES:

ADD AN OIL

Face oils are the perfect winter skin antidote. They offer a luxurious vehicle for a stimulating facial massage to boost skin circulation and encourage all the nourishing ingredients such as fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants to sink in and work their magic. Don't be afraid of oils, they are suitable to all skin types, even oily skin.

Oils come in different shapes and sizes- opt for a nourishing oil cleanser, or switch out your usual moisturising cream for a facial oil. If you're not ready to comitt- do both! adding a couple of drops of oil to your moisturiser can boost hydration, prevent moisture loss and add the feel good factor.

ADD A MOISTURE MASK TO YOUR MIX

Moisture masks are the ultimate antidote to dry, parched tight skin. They offer an intense boost of concentrated ingredients designed to hydrate and nourish for immediate and long term effect. Designed to penetrate deeply into the skin, masks are an effective way to deliver nutrients, help rebuild skin barrier and relive symptoms of dryness, plumping skin and bringing back radiance

TIP: Sleep in your mask! This will keep all the beneficial ingredients on the skin longer, giving them ample time to work, while also creating a seal to lock in that moisture.
