EXPERT Q&A: WHAT MAKES iS CLINICAL'S PIGMENT TREATMENTS SO EFFECTIVE

Pigmentation, it’s pesky - notoriously tricky to treat, comes in many different forms and effects most of us! We chatted with Fergil Mestanov – skin specialist and iS Clinical expert to discuss what sets is Clinical's White Lightening treatments apart from the rest and how these cutting edge treatments will help tackle all forms of pigmentation.

I.WLC and WLS are iS Clinical’s popular pigment treatments. What make these formulas so effective?

F. What makes WLC & WLS so effective is that they address all 5 pathways of pigment production. iS Clinical products have active ingredients in their formulations that get results without the traditional adverse reactions associated with cosmeceutical skin care brands. These 2 products are also hydroquinone free and paraben free.

So, WLC literally addresses all 5 pathways of pigmentation in the skin, with a bonus secondary function of hydration.

I.What is the key difference between these two products, and how do WLC and WLS work best together in unison?

F. WLC is a multipurpose serum designed for use on the entire face. It brightens, hydrates and provides potent antioxidant activity- making it perfect for daytime use. It can be used all year round (even during sun exposure). The formula contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that protect the skin from sun induced post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, (dark spots)

It also contains something called tyrosinase inhibitors- from kojic mushroom and liquorice extract. Tyrosinase is an enzyme that catalyses the production of melanin and other pigments through a process called melanogenesis, therefore making it a direct target to inhibit the development of pigment in its tracks. Tyrosinsase inhibitors work by or sedating the production of melanin which causes skin to have dark spots.

WLC is also formulated with AHA’s and BHA’s to offer mild controlled exfoliation, and botanically derived hyaluronic acid to hydrate, and in turn brighten the overall complexion.

Finally, last but not least, Norwegian Kelp Extract is the ingredient that makes this formula unique. This ingredient interrupts communication between melanocyte and keratinocyte and increases controlled exfoliation, helping to remove pigmented areas.

So, WLC literally addresses all 5 pathways of pigmentation in the skin, with a bonus secondary function of hydration.

WLS on the other hand, is more of a fast acting, and targeted solution. In comparison to WLC think of WLS as a “booster” that provides intensive, targeted treatment to diminish the appearance of uneven skin tone. It can be used for overall coverage, or as a targeted boost for problem areas. WLS provides controlled exfoliation, without any peeling.

Like WLC, WLS targets all 5 pathways of pigment production. It is a lightweight and easily absorbed serum compared to the WLC which is medium viscosity opaque cream.

WLC and WLS work best together in unison by using WLC in your morning routine and using the WLS in your evening routine. It would not be recommended to overlay the products on one another as it doubles up on the exfoliators in the formulation which would irritate the skin.

I.What forms of pigmentation do these treatments target?.

F. Basically it will treat all forms of pigment from Hyperpigmentation, PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation) to chloasma and melasma.

iS Clinical's ingredients are not systemically absorbed, meaning the ingredients do not penetrate beyond the epidermal junction and do not enter the blood stream, making them safe for pregnant and nursing mothers .

I.Are they safe to treat hormonal pigmentation during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

F. In short- Yes! They are. All iS Clinical formulas are derived from the purest and most potent part of the plant (think medicinal strength) and make up to 95-98% of the formula. This differs to regular cosmeceutical products that can have up to 76% active ingredients which in most cases are not botanically derived and are often processed in a laboratory. This means, iS Clinical's ingredients are not systemically absorbed, meaning the ingredients do not penetrate beyond the epidermal junction and do not enter the blood stream, making them safe for pregnant and nursing mothers .

I. How do these products stand out from other pigmentation products on the market?

BI. In my opinion what really sets these products apart is Norwegian Kelp Extract. This unique ingredient is able to interrupt communication between the melanocyte and keratinocyte and also increase controlled exfoliation, helping to remove pigmented areas, uneven skin tone can develop from a variety of different reasons, and it usually appears as dark spots on the skin.

iS CLINICAL products help to address these visual concerns in many ways: the first by providing support against environmental aggressors that contribute to these concerns through the use of potent antioxidant protection, then by providing controlled exfoliation and utilising powerfully gentle botanical extracts. The result is brighter skin with a reduction in the appearance of uneven skin tone and an overall improvement in the appearance of ageing in the skin.
