I. Jordan, we love your unique aesthetic and creative expression. Can you tell us about what inspires you and how this translates in your daily approach to beauty and style?
J. Thank you! At the core of it, I’m inspired by looking a bit different to everyone else and I think my creative expression comes out a lot through my makeup, hair and nails. I constantly change my hair colour and cut because I get bored with it so easily, and I always want to try something new with my eye makeup and nails. Unfortunately these things can result in some damage, so my approach to combating this is to use nourishing hair products and masks, gentle makeup removers and eye creams and intensely moisturising hand creams and cuticle oils.
I. What is the first thing you do when you rise in the morning?
J. The first thing I do is drink a glass of water and then make my bed to perfection. I can’t really explain why I do this, but I think it lends a feeling of order to my day. From there I make my plunger coffee and sit down for breakfast.
I. Can you talk us through your morning beauty routine?
J. I cleanse my face with Bioderma Sensibio Micellar water with a cotton pad, and if it’s feeling dry I’ll follow with a little bit of Bioderma Sensibio Rich Cream. If I don’t think I need something as rich I’ll use Bioderma Hydrabio Serum. If I know I’ll be outside at all that day I’ll also apply a little bit of my Aesop SPF 15 facial sunscreen.
I. How would you describe your skin and how do you take care of it?
J. My skin is usually quite dry so to combat this I drink a lot of water and use rich moisturisers and serums. I exfoliate twice a week and am very vigilant about removing all traces of makeup before bed.
It’s the French in me that stands by “everything in moderation” and the creative, intensely hard working, not doing anything by halves side of me that believes in 'you only live once'.
I. What does your evening skincare routine look like?
J. No matter what I always have a hot shower before bed. In the shower I wash my face with Bioderma Sébium Foaming Gel and a soft face cloth. As soon as I get out, while my face is still damp, I apply a few pumps of Retinol Reform and then massage in some Bioderma Sensibio Rich Cream. I always bring a cup of herbal tea to bed and make sure there’s a glass of water next to me.
I. What is the one beauty product you can’t live without?J. My Bioderma Micellar water. I use it for cleansing and makeup retouches. It’s so gentle and effective.
I. You have spent a lot of time in France with your grandparents, each time you visit, which French Pharmacy products do you stock up on each time?
I. And can you share any of your favourite spots in Paris?
J. Before my grandparents moved from Paris to Brittany last year, I would eat almost every meal at home because truly nothing beats their cooking. But now when I visit Paris I have a few favourites on the list. For breakfast I love Hotel Amour - it’s the loveliest setting and the food is simple but perfect. For lunch I love Bob’s Kitchen, which has a wholesome vegetarian menu, and for dinner I love Ave Maria, which has a great atmosphere and delicious food. For a glass of wine my favourite bar to go to is La Perle where I love to sit outside and feel like a true Parisian.
I. Because you are travelling often, particularly now between Auckland and LA, do you have tips or tricks for taking care of your skin on long haul flights?
J. Water and more water. I think it’s the only thing to keep your skin truly hydrated from the inside. When I travel I wear minimal makeup and always carry my Bioderma moisturiser with me.
I. Being a baker of beautiful cakes, how do you balance out a sweet tooth, and care for yourself from the inside out? Do you have any daily wellness rituals that make you feel good?
J. I do love cake and feel that no day is complete without at least a small slice of it, but I do try to create a little ritual around eating it. It would be so easy to snack on cake all day, but rather than doing that, I make sure I sit down and eat a small slice off a nice plate with a proper cake fork and a dollop of yogurt. This makes me appreciate what I’m eating more and satisfies my sweet tooth in the best way. I adore my tea and am constantly sipping on an organic Rooibos or Nettle and Dandelion tea. When I feel like I need a vitamin boost I go to Little Bird and pick up a Detox Green smoothie and a Lemon Turmeric Ginger tonic.
I. Do you have a beauty pearl of wisdom that has been passed down to you and you sister from mother or grandmother that stands the test of time?
J. My mum and my grandmother have always been believers in sleeping on a silk pillowcase, which gets laundered every few days. I’ve noticed has been so helpful for my hair.
I. Do you have a favourite quote or saying?
J. It’s the French is me that stands by “everything in moderation” and the creative, intensely hard working, not doing anything by halves side of me that believes in “you only live once.” They are contradictory, but both have their place in my life.
I. Do you have a signature scent? If so- tell us about it
J. Le Labo Orange Blossom is my signature scent. I’ve run out of it and can only get it overseas so I’m hanging out to get my bottle refilled in LA.
I. And finally what are your top 3 favourite INÈS products and why?
J. Retinol Reform for its resurfacing effects, Bioderma Sensibio Micellar water for its gentle and effective cleansing, and Bioderma Sensibio Rich Cream for making my skin feel luxuriously hydrated. Also, I love the Prickly Pear Mask by Christophe Robin. It smells like heaven and makes my hair silky smooth and strong. With everything I have put my hair through, this is a necessary in my bathroom cabinet
